Shadowboxing - Working Into Elbow Range

When shadowboxing, it's important to practice techniques, combinations, and sequences that are likely to take place — in theory, we should be practicing the most commonly called-for combinations and techniques the most, and the most rarely called-for techniques only occasionally. Through this, we create muscle memory in our bodies, repeating motions that we will utilize later.

For this reason, it's important when practicing elbows in shadowboxing to create the correct distance from our imaginary opponent, and not throw elbows at the same distance from which we throw punches, kicks, or straight knees. Make sure when you're shadowboxing and working in elbows that you're practicing sequences of movement that will place you in elbow range in a live situation, e.g. punching/kneeing then closing distance with your feet before slicing with your elbows.
